Athlete’s foot
Athlete’s foot is a fungal skin infection commonly affecting those who experience excessive sweating of the feet. It can be related to hygiene and is more likely to occur in people who spend long periods in closed-in shoes, creating warm, moist conditions where bacterial and fungal infections thrive. Hyperhidrosis refers to excessive sweating of the feet, while bromhidrosis refers to foot odour.
Common symptoms of athlete’s foot include broken, scaly skin – especially between the toes – itching, blistering, sweaty feet, and sometimes odour. Athlete’s foot can affect one or both feet and may flare up intermittently. It can cause a burning, itchy sensation or be pain-free but visually unappealing.
How to Treat Athlete’s Foot
Follow these simple steps at home, and you’ll see immediate results. By the morning after your first treatment, you’ll notice and feel a significant difference.
- Remove calluses: If you have calluses, hard, or dry scaly skin on your feet, start by using the Professional Foot File on dry feet before bathing.
- Exfoliate: Wet your feet and apply the Exfoliating Foot Scrub to the bottom of your feet, massaging it into the affected areas. Dip your hand in water and work the scrub between your toes and over your nails. Do this for about 3 minutes per foot. Rinse thoroughly and dry your feet carefully with a clean towel, paying special attention to between the toes.
- Moisturise: Apply the Foot Hygiene Cream before bed. Warm it in your hands and apply it generously over your feet and nails. Wear flip-flops or loose socks if you can’t keep your feet elevated.
- Morning care: In the morning, use the Soothing Foot Powder before putting on socks if you’re prone to sweaty feet or odour. This will also help reduce itchiness.
- Ongoing maintenance: Continue using the Professional Foot File once a week and the Exfoliating Foot Scrub 2-3 times a week. After 14 days, switch to using the Intensive Hydrating Foot Lotion daily, reserving the Hygiene Cream for when symptoms flare up.
- Cleanse and protect footwear: Use the Shoe and Insole Cleansing Spray to kill bacteria and neutralise odour, keeping your footwear fresh and hygienic.
